Welcome to the School: What you need to know!


First Day of School
The first day of school is Thursday, September 8, 2011.   The school day will begin at 8:40am for ALL students this year.  (Pre-K, on Phase-In Schedule, K on 1/2 Day schedule - see calendar on front page for details.)

Arrival & *Dismissal Times
2011-2012 Official School hours
8:40am Arrival for ALL students Pre-K – Grade 5   
2:50pm dismissal for Pre-K students (from the classroom) Monday - Friday
2:55pm dismissal for Kindergarten students (from the classroom) Monday - Friday
3:00pm dismissal for Grades 1 – 5 students  - Monday - Friday.
Breakfast Program:  8:00am – 8:30am daily

* For the safety of all students, please ensure timely pick-up of all children according to the schedule above.

Morning Line-Up

All 3rd – 5th graders line up in the large Parks Department yard – Greene Ave entrance.   If it rains, they line up in the school auditorium.
All 1st and 2nd graders line up in the small yard – Washington Ave entrance.  If it rains, they line up in the gymnasium.
All Pre-K and K students are dropped off in their classroom and signed in by parents or caregivers each morning.

Afternoon Dismissal
All 3rd – 5th graders are dismissed on Waverly Avenue at 3pm, rain or shine.
All 1st and 2nd graders are dismissed in the small yard on Washington Ave at 3pm (in the auditorium if it rains).
All Pre-K and K students are picked up from classrooms by parents each afternoon at 2:50pm and 2:55pm.

Welcome Letters & School Supply Lists

Teachers should have sent out welcome letters and supply lists.

Note
: Kindergarten families need not purchase school supplies. The Kindergarten teachers (all but one teacher) purchase the basic supplies for families and are reimbursed by families - $30 per K student.     That information and amount will be mailed to you.


Basic Supply List for Grades 1 - 5

Some of the basic supplies usually requested in grades 1-5 are:
-composition notebooks (purchase at least 8 to be on the safe side)
-pocket folders
-crayola crayons
-colored markers (thick and thin markers)
-colored pencils
-glue sticks
-#2 sharpened pencils (lots of them)
-blue or black ink pens (grades 3-5)
-1 pack of composition paper (wide ruled – grades 2-5)
-box of facial tissue
-safety scissors
-post it notes or other sticky notes (size 3x3)
-teachers may ask for a fee to join a class book club and/or magazine (Scholastic, Troll, Time For Kids, etc)
-1 ream of white copy paper
-1 pack of multi-colored construction paper

Note:  Teachers may also request items based on special projects and assignments they are planning for the year.  The list above merely serves as a basic list for elementary students.
